Biography - Theodore Davis was particularly known for his illustrations of Civil War Subjects. He worked for Harper's Weekly in America, but travelled with an English journalist and had people believe he was actually drawing for the Illustrated London News. This led to his becoming a spy for the north, as he had learned so much about the weapons in the south. After the war he continued his illustrations for Harper's, travelling widely, and was one of the first to depict the Sioux Indians.
