Biography - Henry George Hine was born in Brighton, and was a self-taught artist. He was originally a painter, before becoming employed as a wood engraver. In the early 1840's he started drawing for Punch and then other publications, including the London Illustrated News. In later life he became famous for his watercolour paintings.
