Biography - Edward Linley Sambourne was working at engineering firm when his boss showed one his sketches to his friend, the editor of Punch. The editor was impressed enough to publish one of Sambourne's illustrations in the magazine, which led to his drawing for Punch over the next four decades. In the early 1900's he became Punch's chief cartoonist, taking over after the retirement of John Tenniel. Sambourne's family preserved his house, and it still open to the public today.
