Biography - The son of a British officer, Bellew was born in India, but grew up in England. Bellew later moved to America, where he began working for a wide variety of magazines as a cartoonist and illustrator. These publications included Harper's Weekly and Puck Magazine. Bellew's work was also published in his book, The Art of Amusing, and was the first person to portray the image of Uncle Sam as a real person.
