Because the man\u2019s confined I thought he might be under house arrest and enduring an uncomfortable alternative to electronic monitoring: \u201cThey ran out of ankle bracelets.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n I next assumed that he was a pet: \u201cOh, you should definitely get one.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Finally, I made several references to the kinds of birds people typically buy and display at home in a cage:<\/p>\n Now let\u2019s see how you did.<\/p>\n Several of you posited that the bird cage was an alternative to a place for both pets and men who get in trouble with their wives:<\/p>\n Many of you assumed the woman who\u2019s speaking is answering the kind of question someone might ask about a caged bird:<\/p>\n The next two entries are more complaints than responses:<\/p>\n There were many jokes about cleaning the cage, but these were my favorites:<\/p>\n There were also a lot of \u201cman cave\u201d entries, but I particularly liked these two because neither wastes a single word:<\/p>\n Here\u2019s the week\u2019s best sex joke: \u201cHe\u2019s well hung.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Here\u2019s the best sick joke: \u201cThe hard part was finding a taxidermist who\u2019d do it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Here\u2019s the best pun: \u201cHis branch closed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n And here\u2019s the best reference to Maya Angelou\u2019s autobiography: \u201cI know why the caged Burt sings.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n Given the man\u2019s size and weight the bird cage should topple over, but this entry explains why it doesn\u2019t: \u201cThe base is bolted to the floor.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n As I did, one of you made a reference to electronic monitoring devices for people under house arrest: \u201cIt was that or the ankle bracelet.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n I like all these explanations for why the man is in the cage in the first place:<\/p>\n\n
