  1. \u201cYou went to all this trouble and forgot the pill?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. \u201cCouldn\u2019t you have drawn inspiration from a jewelry ad?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. \u201cThis is worse than ED.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Finally, I imagined that the couple is not nearly as close as the setting implies: \u201cLet go of my hand. I don\u2019t even know you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Now let\u2019s see how you did.<\/p>\n

    There were, as expected, hundreds of captions about the Cialis ad. Some of the best recognized that a couple trying to have sex should not be in separate tubs:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. \u201cIf we\u2019re not sharing a tub, why do you need a pill?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. \u201cWouldn\u2019t your medication work better if we were in the same tub?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. \u201cI\u2019m glad the medication is working for you, but it\u2019s pretty useless from over there.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Here are the rest of the best entries that directly address the commercial:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \u201cWhat drug are we advertising?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. \u201cAnd what is it we\u2019re advertising?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      3. \u201cExplain to me again why we have to do this for the pills to work.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      4. \u201cIt needs to happen soon. I\u2019m starting to wrinkle.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      5. \u201cIt looked more romantic on TV.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      6. \u201cYou know, it feels just as stupid as it looks in the commercial.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      7. \u201cI hate it when life imitates advertising.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      8. \u201cDo you ever feel as though you\u2019re in an erectile dysfunction commercial?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
      9. \u201cWhat do you mean you forgot the Cialis?\u201d<\/strong>
        \n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        That last caption is similar and superior to one of my own, but I would like it better if the entrant substituted the word \u201cpill\u201d for \u201cCialis.\u201d Jokes are funnier when not everything is spelled out.<\/p>\n

        Like I did, one of you thought the woman might prefer reenacting the ad for a different product: \u201cWe should have done the mattress commercial.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Several of you noted that the couple should not be holding hands during the current pandemic:<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. \u201cWe really should be bumping elbows.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
        2. \u201cDid you wash that hand for twenty seconds?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          But one of you explained why the woman insists on violating this prohibition: \u201cI\u2019m trying to keep your right hand occupied.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Though I\u2019m constantly exhorting you all to submit captions that are as short as possible, I like this unusually long entry: \u201cWould you be a darling and trudge down there for a bucket of water, build a fire to heat it, and then warm up my tub?\u201d<\/strong> It\u2019s lengthy, but there\u2019s not a wasted word, and the length actually serves the joke.<\/p>\n

          By contrast, here\u2019s a fine example of a good short caption: \u201cI\u2019m stuck.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Finally, here are four solid captions that don\u2019t fit neatly into a particular category:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. \u201cI\u2019m completely naked here and you\u2019re looking at the stream?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
          2. \u201cDo you ever wish you had contributed more to your 401K?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
          3. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, Bob, but I\u2019m seeing someone with indoor plumbing.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
          4. \u201cIt said B&B, how was I to know?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
