\"DannyJust in time for Passover, Danny Shanahan has delivered an Exodus-themed cartoon.<\/p>\n

Moses is standing atop Mount Sinai, where he\u2019s receiving the Ten Commandments from God, who\u2019s presenting the Decalogue on a peel, the shovel-like tool that\u2019s used to slide pizzas into and out of ovens. The Commandments are piping hot. Moses\u2019s mouth is closed, so it appears that God\u2014represented by a cloud\u2014is speaking.<\/p>\n

I first thought of a few captions that combined references to both (1) Moses\u2019s role as the one who delivered God\u2019s word, and (2) the way people get their pizzas:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u201cThis is to go forth.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. \u201cYou the delivery guy?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. \u201cI need these delivered.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    I then made a Passover reference: \u201cThey\u2019re unleavened.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

    My favorite scene from any Mel Brooks movie is from \u201cHistory of the World, Part I\u201d Mel plays Moses, who comes down from Mount Sinai holding three tablets. He says, \u201cHear me! O hear me! All pay heed! The Lord, the Lord Jehovah, has given unto you these fifteen\u2026\u201d He then drops one of the tablets, which shatters on the ground. He looks down at the shattered pieces, mutters, \u201coy,\u201d and then raises his head and says, \u201cTen! Ten Commandments for you to obey.\u201d \u00a0That scene inspired this next caption: \u201cThey\u2019re hot. Don\u2019t drop them like you did the first ten.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Here are a couple more captions that focus on the fact that the Commandments appear to have just come out of the oven:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. \u201cThou shalt let them cool for ten minutes.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. \u201cThey\u2019re hot, fresh and mandatory.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Finally, I imagined God getting a little defensive: \u201cThey are most certainly not<\/em> half-baked.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Now let\u2019s see how you did.<\/p>\n

      There were a lot of pizza-themed captions. Some, like mine, played on the meaning of the word \u201cdeliver:\u201d<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \u201cDo you deliver?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. \u201cDeliver this!\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        I\u2019d like that second caption better without the exclamation point. Understated is almost always funnier.<\/p>\n

        This entry acknowledges the fact that many people prefer certain Commandments over others, just as people prefer certain pizza toppings: \u201cJust remove the ones you don\u2019t like.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

        I like the way this caption plays on one word\u2019s double-meaning: \u201cYour orders are ready.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

        And here\u2019s a terrific two-word caption that refers to both a type of pizza and God: \u201cOne Supreme.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

        I suspect these entries were submitted by people who, like me, adore Mel Brooks:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. \u201cThere were fifteen but I ate the other five.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
        2. \u201cTry not to drop these<\/em>, alright?\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
        3. \u201cThey\u2019re hot, so try not to drop them.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Like the last two entries, this next caption notes that the Commandments are very hot, while also alluding to another part of Exodus: \u201cKeep this away from any bushes until it cools.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Here\u2019s the best pun of the week: \u201cMeet your Baker.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          In these captions God\u2019s a little arrogant:<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. \u201cOf course it\u2019s well done.\u201d <\/strong><\/li>\n
          2. \u201cAs usual, perfectly done.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            But here He\u2019s more self-deprecating: \u201cA few are half-baked.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Finally, these entries acknowledge that some people struggle with the Commandments:<\/p>\n

              \n
            1. \u201cThe guilt is baked in.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
            2. \u201cEasier to swallow.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
