I remember when “There’s an app for that” was an iPhone commercial tagline that spawned a million memes:<\/p>\n

and a slew of app-propriate cartoons, like those I’ve included here.<\/p>\n

Cartoons are like memes. Taking familiar situations and tweaking them to fit new events: new wine in an old bottle, so to speak.<\/p>\n

Nowhere is this technique more clearly demonstrated than in the cartoonists’ response to the novel coronavirus crisis. Cartoonists use every trope in the book to do their part in the war against gloom and doom. I’ve selected a few choice examples\u2026.<\/p>\n

But it’s also the case that cartoons published when I was The New Yorker cartoon editor are just as hilarious in the present context:<\/p>\n

But really, any cartoon site worth its salt will have some cartoons relevant to the current crisis. What distinguishes CartoonStock\/CartoonStock\u2013 the largest cartoon archive in the universe with over one-half million images \u2013 is that we have the most cartoons on the most topics, including salt.<\/p>\n
