In the air above them is a woman with her arms extended out to the side. She\u2019s dressed like a jogger and addressing one of the runners below her. She looks annoyed.<\/p>\n

Why is she up there? Is she floating or flying? If she\u2019s floating, is she full of helium? If she\u2019s flying, is she a spirit? If so, did she die jogging? Is she flying by flapping her arms? If so, why is she dressed like a jogger?<\/p>\n

Assuming the woman inhaled helium: \u201cWhy do you think<\/em> my voice sounds funny?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Assuming she\u2019s dead:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \u201cI\u2019m dead two weeks and already you\u2019re running around with another woman?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. \u201cI just now slipped and hit my head on a rock and, apparently, I died.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Assuming she took to the air by furiously flapping her arms: \u201cJogging\u2019s great for cardio, but nothing works the triceps and shoulders like flapping your arms.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Now let\u2019s see how you did:<\/p>\n

    I thought \u201cRunner\u2019s High\u201d worked best as a title for this commentary\u2014especially because it could indicate a reference to either (a) the feeling of euphoria one experiences after sustained aerobic exercise, or (b) the fact that the runner in the cartoon in the air\u2014but several of you used the phrase to create strong captions:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. \u201cIt\u2019s a runner\u2019s high.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. \u201cYou call that a runner\u2019s high?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. \u201cWhat, you don\u2019t get Runner\u2019s High?\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Here\u2019s a similar entry I liked: \u201cI get high from running.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Many of you noted that flying could help the woman avoid running-related injuries:<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. \u201cI don\u2019t believe in weight-bearing exercise.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. \u201cIt helps with my shin splints.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
      3. \u201cIt\u2019s easier on the knees.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
      4. \u201cIt\u2019s easier on my knees.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
      5. \u201cI have bad knees.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        And there\u2019s another advantage: \u201cAnd you don\u2019t have to count steps.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

        Here are the best of the helium captions:<\/p>\n

          \n
        1. \u201cI\u2019m on a helium-based diet.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
        2. \u201cHelium is not a performance-enhancing drug.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
        3. \u201cDid my voice startle you? Must be the helium.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Like I did, one of you assumed the floating woman is the ghost of a recently-deceased and jealous lover: \u201cI\u2019ve been dead a week and you\u2019re already jogging with someone else?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          A similar entry suggests that the flying woman is not dead, but is jealous and surprisingly competitive: \u201cBut can she do this?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Here\u2019s the week\u2019s best pandemic joke: \u201cActually, it\u2019s a great time to fly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Here are the two best puns:<\/p>\n

            \n
          1. \u201cBrad, I\u2019m so<\/em> over you!\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
          2. \u201cJogging is so beneath me.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            And here\u2019s the best twist on a common expression: \u201cYou can run, but you can\u2019t fly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            As someone who used to have recurring flying dreams, which felt incredibly liberating, I like this entry: \u201cDreams do come true!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            I love this caption\u2014\u201cSorry, I sweat a lot\u201d<\/strong>\u2014which cleverly suggests that the male jogger looked up before the flying woman said anything, but I\u2019m not sure it fits the woman\u2019s expression. Wouldn\u2019t she look more apologetic than annoyed? Maybe not. Maybe she\u2019s defensive.<\/p>\n

            I received two nearly identical versions of this caption: \u201cI\u2019m training for the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade.\u201d<\/strong> The other version had an exclamation point, but the understated version is funnier.<\/p>\n

            Running against a headwind is hard, but flying against one presents even greater challenges: \u201cWell, sure. But it\u2019s much tougher against the wind.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Many of you submitted some variation on the warning one gives while passing a runner, but this was the best: \u201cOn your upper right.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Finally, one of you suggested that the woman who\u2019s speaking is just now realizing one of the advantages of flight: \u201cYeah, why am<\/em> I following the jogging path?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

            This week\u2019s winner is the beautifully concise, \u201cI have bad knees.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
