CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF SAM GROSS AT THE NEW YORKER!

September 4, 2019 by Bob Mankoff

Hey, times flies when you’re being as funny as Sam Gross. He got his first cartoon published in The New Yorker 50 years ago this August and over 432 have followed that one. Here are three Sam Gross New Yorker classics that will be funny 50 years from now.

There’s no doubt that they’re funny but what makes them so great, to my mind, is that they’re also so sad.

But the saddest, funniest cartoon Sam ever did wasn’t for The New Yorker but for the late, great, National Lampoon. Brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye every time.
