Director’s Commentary

Canada has exported a lot of funny people, Dan Aykroyd, Seth Rogan … William Shatner, and among them is popular syndicated cartoonist Mike Baldwin whose work appears in daily newspapers across the US. We’ve been working with Mike for years; he’s consistently a best-selling cartoonist and we love his work. For me, it’s the dry understated expressions that make Mike’s cartoons work so well. The humor often lies in the gap between the ludicrous situation and the befuddled but accepting look of his cast of characters. When I have spoken to Mike about humor he is always keen to emphasize the need for the audience to “discover the joke” themselves. Often the laugh comes in that moment of realization, when they put two and two together. ~ Joel Mishon, CartoonStock
